This work is devoted to heat treatment of metals and alloys — the most important technological process that allows for targeted changes in their structure and properties. The work examines in detail the main types of heat treatment: annealing, hardening, tempering, normalization, aging, carburizing. For each type of treatment, a description of its essence, purposes, varieties, advantages and disadvantages, as well as areas of application is given. Particular attention is paid to factors affecting the efficiency of each process, such as temperature, holding time, cooling rate and composition of the material being processed. The work will be useful for students of technical specialties, engineers and technologists working in the field of materials science, mechanical engineering, metallurgy and other industries where heat treatment of metals and alloys is used.
