I hope that the art community will accept my terms (Fluid Fusion and Flowing Graphics) which characterize the new stylistic trends established by Irina and Alexey Polyakov.
We can find a lot of examples in the history of fine art when artists reflected the state of society, science, philosophy on a hunch using new means of visual identity and techniques that later formed a stylistic direction. And only months, and sometimes years later, art critics chose an adequate name, which settled down in the art world as a required semantic concept.
I first saw the works of Alexey and Irina Polyakov at the Russian Art Awards exhibition and competition held by the Eurasian Art Union in March 2021 at the Moscow House of Artists on Kuznetsky Most. Their canvases were awarded the M.A. Vrubel Gold Medal: one of the highest awards of the competition. The jury's preference turned out to be prophetic, since staying in Abramtsevo (1890) Mikhail Vrubel performed figurative and pictorial experiments in the manufacture of ceramic tiles using the majolica technique, namely, tiles with a relief surface and unique color gradation in line with Russian Art Nouveau.
The artists performed as a duet under A&IPolyakArt brand, and according to the jury, their picturesque techniques and the artistic merit of their works became a modern development of the traditions of M.A. Vrubel in the creation of figurative polymer art surfaces based on acrylic compounds.
Alexey and Irina Polyakov work with the ultra-fashionable technique of decorative pouring, Fluid Art, the irrationality of which is visually close to color abstraction. Basically, they turned it into an element of meaningful artistic creativity, modernizing both the methods of work and the paint formulations themselves.
The breakthrough know-how, or rather the author's secrets of Alexey Polyakov consisted in new chemical plasticizers and special tools of paint merging, which enabled the artists to manage the color flows of liquid acrylic formulations under the artistic composition directly on the sized canvas.
