In the context of society informatization and the information economy, there is
a need for an objective quantitative and qualitative effectiveness evaluation of
the scientific activities of scholars and organizations, including ones in the
field of education, with the use of scientometrics. The article demonstrates the
feasibility of conducting scientometric research, shows the methodology for
evaluating its effectiveness and the realization of scientific potential in the
context of increasing information flows, the development of science and modern
education, presents the existing methods of scientometric research and
scientometric indicators used in world practice in the perspective of
information competence and informatization of education.
