In the last decade, due to heavy workload, variety testing plots have not carried out experiments to study the cultivation technology of new varieties of potatoes and other crops [4, 6–7].
A new variety of potatoes Gala of Dutch selection is included in the register of breeding achievements in the Tyumen Region and is grown according to the generally accepted technology, although its biological characteristics differ greatly from the same of the rest of the registered varieties [2, 14].
According to many economic characteristics (early maturity, yield, rounded tuber shape, surface bedding of eyes, uniformity of tubers, taste, keeping quality of tubers in winter), the variety has an advantage over some registered varieties [8, 10, 13]. In addition, tubers of Gala variety are in great demand in the retail networks. This is the most attractive variety under market conditions. In the private sector, as well as in agricultural enterprises, Gala is in great demand.
To realize the potential of a variety and to obtain the maximum economic benefit, a technology for a variety is needed [1, 3, 15]. In this regard, the purpose of the research is to develop elements of the technology for cultivating Gala potatoes in the northern forest-steppe of the Tyumen Region.
The studies were carried out in 2018–2019 at the experimental fi eld of the Northern Trans-Ural State Agrarian University. The soil is leached blackearth (chernozem), heavy loamy in granulometric composition, moderately supplied with nitrogen and phosphorus, well supplied with potassium, pH is 6.7. The predecessor is potatoes. Tilling is common for the crop in the area. Mineral fertilizers were applied subject to the calculation method for the planned yield of 30; 40; 50 t/ha. This experiment was carried out on two backgrounds: the first is without using products of plant protection from diseases and pests; the second is with application thereof. The timing of planting and harvesting was also studied.
