The paper studies the current principles and features of maintenance of relay protection and automation (RPA) cabinets that contribute to the maintenance of effective and serviceable operation of the designated power electrical equipment. The main tasks, types and stages of maintenance of operating RPA systems are considered. Special attention is paid to the importance of comprehensive inspection, adjustment and selection of protection settings. The main aspects of diagnostics of RPA circuits are listed. General information about the necessity of regular preventive and repair works aimed at timely detection and elimination of possible defects and malfunctions of cabinets functioning is presented. The article concludes with the presentation of important recommendations on operation and maintenance of modern sets of relay protection devices.

It is shown that, unlike general industrial facilities for underground workings, there is a danger of open sparking when the potential is removed from the lightning conductor grounding.
